Day-After-Thanksgiving Sandwiches

A few years ago when our son’s football team was headed to a state championship the Friday after Thanksgiving, I made a few of our traditional “Day-After” sandwiches for the bus ride. It didn’t take long for orders to role in the following year when the team earned another spot at the Carrier Dome. So I made a few more triple-deckers which only brought… more requests. This year the sandwiches will stack high in our refrigerator earmarked for Charlie’s friends and their friends. Read more »

Open Table:Room for One More

The most cherished tradition in our family is that of an open table… when we gather on Thanksgiving, Christmas or any day of the year. It helps that we’re in the furniture business with unlimited table and chair options including drop-leaf, card and folding. We’ve been known to connect room after room with kids’ tables squeezed into hallways. When a newcomer joins in, the pleasure is all ours. We might provide a chair and a warm meal, but what we stand to gain is immeasurable because an open table leaves room for one more… indefinitely: One more person, perspective, tradition, religion, culture and set of dreams.
