Years ago on a cold winter night, my husband walked in and placed a beautifully wrapped gift on the table in front of me. “What’s this for?” I inquired, “Did I miss an occasion?” His answer changed our understanding of the days of the week… or at least one of them. He explained, “I bought this for you because… it’s Tuesday.” From that moment on we loved Tuesdays. They turned into date nights we counted on to see and celebrate one another. We met for dinner or a movie when we could find a sitter. If not, we’d avoid non-family commitments. Now as empty-nesters we sit at a pizza bar in town by the fire and raise our glasses to Tuesday. What was probably the least distinctive day of the week became the most important to us. The character Kramer on Seinfeld once remarked, “It feels like a Tuesday.” Most people don’t know what a Tuesday feels like but we do. Tuesday is filled with anticipation and gratitude for another cozy night together. That little ruby ring given on the least likely day of the year made a very big difference in our lives. It reshaped how we thought about Tuesdays and the precious time we spend together.

It’s the day-changing gifts we exchange that make a life-changing difference.
